Founders KBS (02/2012)
A: Pitch black, nice mocca/beige head with pretty large bubbles in it. The head reduces slowly, but never goes away completely, sticks a little to the glass.
A: Lots of bourbon, burned malts, smoke/cigarettes, bit peated, dark chocolate, subtle hints of wood, a little vanilla. Not much coffee.
T: Very powerful, slick beer. Once the liquid rolls into your mouth, you get a lot of warming alcohol, bourbon, drop, sweetness, liquorish, sirupy. But also the dark chocolate is present, while the coffee taste takes the upperhand even a little. The barrel aging has became a wonderful harmony with the beer, truly synergetic lifting the beer to a higher level. The aftertaste is somewhat bitter, little hops, and the alcohol is also very present.
C: This is a great beer, but not that "drinkable". It's a beer you have to enjoy very slowly, one sip at a time. It's so complex, and so interesting!
Score: 17,5/20
